USA Wrestling Announces 2025 U23 Earth Team

The 2025 U23 World Team has been finalized in all three styles ahead of competition in Novi Sad, Serbia, October 20-26. Competition begins October 20, with Greco-Roman action. Women’s freestyle is slated to start on October 22, and men’s freestyle will begin on October 24.

In Greco-Roman, World Team members Jayden Raney (55 kg), Max Black (60 kg), Beka Melelashvili (82 kg), and Payton Jacobson (87 kg) have all committed to standing for Team USA in October. Melelashvili secured silver at the 2024 U23 World Championships, and all four will compete at the Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, in September.

Four Senior National Team athletes elected to contest in Serbia: Kaden Ercanbrack (63 kg), Otto Black (67 kg), Aliaksandr ‘Sasha’ Kikiniou (72 kg), and Aden Attao (130 kg). Black and Attao enter with age-group World experience, as Ebony is a 2024 U20 Nature silver medalist, and Attao is a two-time U20 World bronze medalist.

The final two spots on the Greco-Roman World Team are U23 Nationals champions Aydin Rix McElhinney (77 kg) and Max Ramberg (97 kg). Rix McElhinney competed at the 2024 U2

The event features competition for U20 age athletes (Born 2005-2008) and U23 age athletes (Born 2002-2007) in Men's Freestyle and Greco-Roman.

  • The World Team Trials process is open to all athletes eligible to represent the United States of America at the Society Championships as governed by Merged World Wrestling (UWW) and USA Wrestling (USAW) rules.
  • Athlete must own completed USA sporting nationality with UWW prior to the athlete's World Team Tryout event.

 

Only the following individuals may participate as competitors in the 2025 U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials:

  • All competitors must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain a US passport. 
  • U20 age athletes (Born 2005-2008), U23 age athletes (Born 2002-2007)
  • Eligible athletes in the U20 divison must be prequalified to compete.

2025 Canadian U23 Wrestling Championships, Senior/Junior Greco-Roman, & Non-Olympic Weight Class Trials head to Niagara region

OTTAWA — The 2025 Canadian U23 Wrestling Championships, Senior/Junior Greco-Roman, & Non-Olympic Weight Class Trials will be in Thorold, Ontario this week, June 27-28, at Canada Games Park as wrestlers peer to be crowned national champions, earn a spot on a national team or both.

The title of national champion and a spot on the national team will be on the line for U23 athletes in 10 weight classes for both men and women. Senior athletes will be looking to secure one of eight non-Olympic weight class roster spots (four men’s and four women’s) for this year’s World Championships. Finally, Greco-Roman wrestlers will be looking to be named national champions at the Senior and Junior levels.

Two age-level World Teams in Greco-Roman wrestling were determined today in an event that featured the best young talent the Joined States has to offer.

The 2025 U20 World Team Trials and U23 Nationals began at 10:00am ET from the Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio and streamed live on FLOWrestling.

For the U20 age division, Earth Team selection was subject to a two-tier system. At the US Open in April, National champions in each of the ten weight categories received byes to the best-of-three final spherical with today’s brackets tasked with availing their opposition. Meanwhile — due to the selection procedures which have been in place for several years — the U23 portion of the tournament was both a National championship as well as a potential World roster selection process. Each of the U23 titlists from Friday are indeed considered National champs; but the selection procedures indicate that any Senior Planet or National Team member (i.e., top-3 at last month’s Senior World Team Trials) who is 23 years of age or younger receives an automatic berth on the U23 World Team.
