A new survey conducted by Mumsnet revealed that 1 in 5 grandparents are not fans of their grandchild’s name.
The investigate analyzed how involved grandparents were in the process of the baby name decision and whether or not they liked the name chosen for their fresh grandkid.
The top names hated by grandparents, according to the survey, include Aurora, Charlotte, Elijah, Finn, Jack, Lindsay, Noah, Sally and Tabitha.
Grandparents’ complaints about their grandchild’s names include that the designate is ugly (28%), too weird (17%), too old-fashioned (11%), they disliked the spelling (6%) or it reminded them of someone they didn’t like (11%).
Of the 2,000 grandparents and parents questioned, some even admitted to creature annoyed that the baby’s parents wanted to use a family name related to the other side of grandparents (11%) or being annoyed that the parents didn’t use their suggested designate (6%) or a family entitle (6%).

What makes a name feel unattractive can vary greatly from person to person, but certain patterns often stand out.

Yes, I personally have faith there are some pretty plain names out there – both ugly girl names and plain boy names.
It seems to me there may be more repulsive girl names than boy names, but honestly, there are cute terrible names for both genders.
What about unisex names? For some reason I think these names have far fewer ugly names between them.
My theory about this is that maybe single sex names that are prettier / nicer sounding stand a higher chance of people wanting to use those names for the gender the name wasn’t originally intended for – giving prettier names a higher chance of becoming a unisex names in the first place.

I grew up reading my mom’s childhood favorite books, and some of those date to decades before she was born. So I kind of crush on some fairly old names, including some that may sound unattractive to ears used to [name_u]Tyler[/name_u]/Kyler and [name_u]Aiden[/name_u]/Jaden/Braden.
I’m talking about some that I am fairly certain are unusable anymore, like [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] (glue) or [name_m]Casper[/name_m] (ghost). But what about [name_u]Howard[/name_u], or [name_m]Walter[/name_m], or [name_m]Stuart[/name_m], or [name_m]Norman[/name_m]? Are they too fuddy duddy to be usable, or are they just ahead of the curve? I must confess to absolutely adoring both [name_u]Howard[/name_u] and [name_m]Walter[/name_m]!

Names in my “ugly” old names that I wouldn’t personally use category are [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m].

I like both [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], too! When I see [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], I think of the cute guy on “Survivor” or “[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] in the Middle”.
