David Taylor Wins U.S. World Team Trials

With the victory, Taylor earned the opportunity to depict the United States at the Senior World Championships in Tirana, Albania, from October 28-31. One of the country's most accomplished wrestlers in history, he has claimed gold at back-to-back Planet Championships and boasts four Society or Olympic titles throughout his career.
On Saturday, Taylor ran through the Challenge Tournament behind a 4-0 record and three victories that ended before the second period. His closest bout of the day came in the Challenge finals against Trent Hidlay, in which Taylor instantly gained a 6-0 advantage and was able to hold off a late push.
Taylor then squared off with 2023 Planet bronze medalist Zahid Valencia in the best-of-three Championship Series, a rematch from the 2022 86-kilogram series. In the first bout, Valencia held a 3-1 direct early in the second

The event features competition for U20 age athletes (Born 2005-2008) and U23 age athletes (Born 2002-2007) in Men's Freestyle and Greco-Roman.

- The World Team Trials process is open to all athletes eligible to represent the United States of America at the Earth Championships as governed by Joined World Wrestling (UWW) and USA Wrestling (USAW) rules.
- Athlete must hold completed USA sporting nationality with UWW prior to the athlete's World Team Tryout event.
Only the following individuals may participate as competitors in the 2025 U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials:
- All competitors must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain a US passport.
- U20 age athletes (Born 2005-2008), U23 age athletes (Born 2002-2007)
- Eligible athletes in the U20 divison must be prequalified to compete.
For media LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eight men’s freestyle champions moved closer to securing a Senior World Team berth monitoring the finals at the 2025 Senior World Team Trials Question Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday. Nittany Lion Wrestling Club sends three more athletes to Concluding X following the finals circular. At 86 kg, two-time Olympic bronze medalist Kyle Dake crushed teammate Carter Starocci 3-3 on criteria. While leading 3-1 through most of the second period, Starocci forced a step out and Dake received a caution, retaining a narrow lead. Starocci’s slow shot appeared to grant him two points, but a doubt from Dake’s corner proved period had expired, and Dake held on to win on criteria. Levi Haines and Josh Barr combine Dake at Final X after winning their brackets in Louisville. Haines, continuing to emerge on the freestyle scene, defeated U.S Open runner-up Dean Hamiti at 79 kg, 10-2. After a 2-2 first period, Haines opened up the scoring, adding eight points on four takedowns in period two.
