History
The World’s Biggest Fish Fry in Paris, Tennessee, has a rich history dating back to1938, when it began as Mule Day. Farmers from across the region would gather in town on the first Monday of April to trade mules, shop, and socialize. In the early 1950s, as tractors replaced mules, the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce sought a new event to take its place. In 1961, the Paris-Henry County Jaycees took over the event, significantly expanding it. What started with 1,600 pounds of catfish grew to over five tons, along with a two-hour grand parade and a week-long celebration. PARIS, Tenn. — As the 72nd World’s Biggest Fish Fry continues, a grand procession kicked off the festival season in West Tennessee.

The streets in Paris were lined with excitement, music and the unmistakable smell of fried catfish. The grand parade brought together thousands of locals and visitors alike. All celebrating a beloved West Tennessee tradition that dates back to 1953.
We visited the World’s Biggest Fish Fry festival and met one young lady, Dixie Grimm, who says she feels proud to have the festival in Paris.
“It feels really good because this is a fairly small town, and the fact that we have this really big thing. It makes me proud for this town, and all of the people in it,” said Grimm, attendee.
This event isn’t just about excellent food, it’s also about society. And nowhere is that soul more alive than is Paris on parade day.

Annual ‘World’s Biggest’ fish fry in Paris lures thousands to western Tennessee festival

Every April, for more than seven decades, the town has noted what’s come to be established as the “World’s Biggest Fish Fry,” attracting thousands of visitors to the Henry County community.
The western Tennessee town welcomed festival goers to the 72nd annual fish fry this past weekend.
Organizers say that the festival’s identify comes from the event’s traditional all-you-can-eat catfish dinner. Josh Taylor, the chairperson in charge of the festival’s fish fry portion, said that, on average, around six tons of catfish and 60,000 individual hush puppies over the course of the week-long celebration.
Taylor said that the nourishment – which is almost entirely prepared by volunteers – is eaten by around 12,000 regular festival goers. Jeff Morris has been volunteering with the fish fry since 1974, when he was attending Murray State University.
“It brings the community together. It is a gathering place for people that you haven’t seen since last year when we did this. And it's, of course, it's a fundraiser for the community,” Morris said. “It brings a
