I’m looking to buy one of the new M4 models when they are released. The iMac appeals to me for the form factor and the screen, but I’m not sure if the performance would be improve on the Mac mini. I’m fully in the Apple ecosystem and don’t play any other computer games, so whichever I choose to get would be solely for whatever is foremost to play wow on a Mac. Would appreciate anyone’s thoughts and experiences with one vs the other

Do you think the M4 pro is worth considering? I’m a casual player these days but I do want to get something that will run the game for a decent amount of years. If an iMac is capable of doing so, I find myself leaning in that direction.

Pro has double gpu act of regular. M4 is very much baseline. if you truly want it to last a bit, M4 pro is way to go.

you can even leave all in and just become m4 max macbook pro through best buy or other sites that finance over 3 years instead of apples 1. that way you get best of ever

Is World of Warcraft (WoW) playable on the Intel Mac mini?

Please note that this Q&A was written to refer to Mac mini systems that are powered by Intel GMA 950 graphics (those released prior to the "Early 2009" model on Rally 3, 2009). The "Early 2009" and "Late 2009" Mac mini models are powered by NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics and go beyond the minimum requirements for Nature of Warcraft.

No doubt "playable" would be defined differently by different people. As mentioned elsewhere in the Mac mini "Core" Q&A, the Intel-based system is not really intended to be a "hardcore" gaming system.

A MacWorldeditorial, referring to Apple's marketing of the Intel Mac mini systems as supporting "the latest 3D games", bluntly opines that:

Maybe someone has trial running WoW Classic on Mac mini 2024 m4 (not pro) 16 gb? Will it be possible to play at least on medium settings with fullHD?

Yes. It’ll play with no problems at all.
For graphics settings, you might want to twist water quality down and compute effects off (because of how Metal handles this), but otherwise it’ll run like a champ. The M4 is a strong SOC.

Yeah, it will engage fine.
The water quality and compute bugs cripple Windows too so it’s not even a Mac exclusive issue. There is also an issue related to transparent particle effects killing fps but, again, this cripples some Windows machines too (usually AMDGPU).
